APPRECIATION

So i am back home, been so for a while i must say the response from people about the blog and about the somalia trip was amazing, you people continue to amaze and inspire me i kid you not, you are the fire that keeps me running..As usual so much to talk about so little space we have..Today i feel that we should talk about appreciation.. heard about it right? everywhere we go, we have hear that, c'mon, you have heard it too.. " i am not appreciated" "i do not feel appreciated" simple word right? but lets look at the definition as always, a good place to start ( my lecturer would be so proud of me right now): I refer to the Meriam Webster dictionary:

a : judgment, evaluation; especially : a favorable critical estimate
b : sensitive awareness; especially : recognition of aesthetic values
c : an expression of admiration, approval, or gratitude
d : increase in value

All of these in my view are both interrelated and they focus on people, a situation without which will birth so many problems....most of which are often unspoken...

So lets check it out, evaluation, especially a favourable critical estimate, to me this says this, first of all you need to appreciate you, love you, look at yourself in the mirror and fall in love, realize this that when God looks into the mirror He sees you and you are the best!.. When you look "within" you will also discover that you have faults, but this does not mean that you then focus on them or what someone said about you in comparison to another, that should not dictate the way you see yourself.Ladies and gentlemen,we are to give ourselves a "favorable critical estimate" judge your strengths and weaknesses but then, make it favorable, meaning, e fair, check and work on your weaknesses..

The second one deals with those around you, being sensitive to what each of your friends, family and loved one's bring to the table, what are their strengths and weaknesses, then according them the necessary appreciation..This also means truth, it means honesty, it means that you must draw line between your friends and your loved one's, how you treat them, how you speak to them in relation with other people this is all part of appreciating people..this line is often not clearly defined but we also have to appreciate the difference between people and things and situations..bottomline BE SENSITIVE

The third is the one that is most heard of and what most people crave, but see without the first two this third.. why do i say this well, if you are not appreciating yourself, if you do not have a well developed self esteem, them you cannot draw the line emotionally and thus you wil not be able to appreciate or in the bear the ability to appreciate, approve and admire people, because you are not doing it to yourself...

and it goes without say that without all the above you cannot " increase in value" you cannot get better you cannot grow, you cannot progress..you then stagnate. and Bishop Allan Kiuna says :if you are stagnating you are dying... "

So then what guess what? there is a way out! and the people said "yeeessssssss" It's simple: inspiration starts with you... progression starts with you.. TD jakes says " experience when it becomes tradition is dangerous" This to mean, you cannot solve today's problems with yesterdays answers, you need to appreciate, you need to add value, to even the way you tackle problems the way, you deal with issues, the way you deal with people.. If we are going to make any progress we must grow, how do we grow, learn to appreciate.

Appreciate yourself, you may not be where you want to be but you are definitely not where you used to be and you are not anyone's opinion..

Appreciate those who are in your life, lets not mince words here, if you don't and if they realize you don't, they will leave..

Appreciate, be Kind to people, approve, admire, without regrets

Appreciate: grow in value, be better...why? because you are better..

WHATS DONE IN THE DARK....

So ill skip the whole..i have been meaning to write and how its been a while blah blah etc...stuff coz well, it has..We are here now. I am writing this from a tent somewhere in Somalia and while i am tempted to write about the experience here and all (which i will write about someday) i thing i will write about the one thing that i believe is at the heart of all of us..Character. Yeap that word that is often thrown around loosely often used to mean behavior right? and to generally define somebody, you say that is their character. I read somewhere that if for example you know this person and they are really cool people and one day you learn that, i dont know lets say they are have a huge temper that you hadn't seen before or that they are really mean people, or that they are even killers...What the text read was that it was there character and it was just bound to come out. While i admit there is some level of truth in that i believe that we all have what i would like to call Character shapers.. the things that make us and mold us, shape our opinions on things...but lets start where i always like to start, lets define this thing called character..

i believe it is

a) the ability to do right, even when a wrong situation presents itself, especially when you are not under any supervision and

b) leaving something better than you found it.

We got the beat now lets dance...

Many times we are presented with opportunities to go against our word and our principles and even our word, when we are in private. Think about it, that temptation you get, the thrill that you can get away with it...It is always there, that why people leave double lives...but what is the problem? Its simply that a character flaw. You see character is not developed in the podium of the public, but in the pedestal of the private..It is the decisions you make when in private, when no one is watching that will shape your character. So many people complain about how they have been wronged or cheated or are shocked at what someone did or said, and say that is not his/her character, but in reality it is, you just never saw it or chose to ignore it, many times it is the latter. We have so many times been told to be like the eagle, well sometimes the eagle metaphor can describe us as well. The eagle has perfect eyesight and can see prey from far, when it is sure it has it, it goes for the kill. The same thing can apply to us, we see the problem from far, lock onto it but still dive in for the attack..(just think about that for a moment)

The bottom-line is this, whatever is done in the dark will soon come out,it may not come to haunt you now but in future the flaws in character in teh secret will be a public display..it will lead to a PDA, ( not what your thinking people) Public Display of Anger...because nobody will understand.. You see we thing that its just this once or, its just this week or, ill change eventually but before we know it we are trapped. Here is the cycle, a deed becomes a habit and a habit develops into your character, its becomes who you are.

There are some levels in life, some joy, some peace , that you cannot attain until you work with your character...So how do you do this? i thought you'd never ask

Character shapers, the most common is people! Friends. etc.. My mum once told me " pick your friedns with a toothpick" i liked that what she meant was be very careful who you let into your life who you listen to, who you allow to be around you, and eventually the environment you are in. Sometimes we make decisions and if we really look back it wasn't our decision, we talked to a friend and even if it went against our better judgment we took their advice because it seemed convincing but realize this, the decision you make with friend or a group of friends, you will live with alone. You see they will not be there once you make the decision. Think Alshabab here in somalia, they are in a group and they make a decision to say bomb a place...so then each goes but when you are dying, your teacher is not there, you are alone, you feel the pain alone, you go through it alone..yet the decision was made in a group..

That is why i believe we should practice part b of my definition of character, always leave a place, a person better than you found them. Always strive to better someones life, to inject new hope and life in them, to be help them. and here is the catch..that applies to you too. I realized that sometimes we are soo good to others we forget to just sit back and be good to ourselves and our bodies,CHARACTER dictates that you make yourself better, take an analysis of yourself, know your strengths and weaknesses work on them. There are things you do and you know they hurt people? work around them, compromise, sacrifice, in the words of Joel Osteen " become a better you!" That way you will develop such a strong character in secret by always doing the right thing to yourself and to others even when no one is watching or even when you know you can get away with it, that your character will shine in the midst of this crazy world.. You are a character shaper you, take care of yourself.

I tell you what, ill stop here got to go but i will continue this later. my parting shot is this : There are places you cannot go to , a level of peace and joy and love you cannot have, until you work on character."

CAN WE TALK....

Each time I stay away from writing either I get soo busy or I am piling up ideas on what to write on or I am simply in a moment of reflection, which I have been doing a lot of lately. Fear, anger, happiness these are just some of the feelings that I have been going through and putting through the filter of reason and allowing it to flow into the jar of my heart. Its been a month for me, my aunt passed away, which was a very painful heart wrenching time for me. She meant the world to me….Sigh R.I.P Aunt Janet. So this is an open post, I know most of the others I have been spuring and urging you on, but I like what my mentor Bishop Allan Kiuna says to me “ can we just talk!” when he sas that you know its about to get really real! I am just going to share about what I have seen and what probably felt during this time…

I believe that God in His infinite wisdom created all of us different
, our values may not be the same, but that is ok because we all hail from different backgrounds and at the core we have been through different situation, and the themes of our lives as it were are all different. This means then that as another one of my mentors Peter Opondo says we must learn to understand “peoples idiosyncrasies “simply put we must know who we are around. Society today is full of a brand of people who want so much to be understood and loved and cared for but are not willing to reciprocate the same. Think about it, often times we take other people for granted. My aunt lived 5 minutes away from my workplace but I can count on one hand the number of times I went to visit her versus the number of times she called and texted and just wanted to find out how I am doing, she was always loving and caring..but sometimes we never reply those texts do we? Its not that we don’t want to just that we mental note it or don’t “have the time to”(which is really a bad excuse), or perhaps it has become too common, for us right? You are probably thinking..Wrong but you know what I am talking about. We simply do not esteem people as we should, instead we take them for granted.. ” Pause for a minute and think about that and then I remembered what Joyce Meyer said “ You may think the grass is greener on the other side, but you will soon realize, yo gotta mow the lawn there as well” and then I coined my own, “ Fires just need a spark to ingnite them and sometimes we fuel the sparks without knowing, soon we have burnt and lost everything”

So I sat and thought about all of these situations and came to the following conclusion(s). Dear friends, let us not take anybody for granted, let us cultivate the true virtues of trust and faithfulness in this generation, let us always be wary, never brush anything aside, be careful to treat people right and be aware of the needs of other people. There are people in your life that care for you, and often times you get so used to them as it were that you involuntarily start taking them for granted, but who knows when their time with you will be up? Everybody has what I call a push-limit.. Is that thing you are doing causing you to drift or move closer to the people you love? How about we weigh the options 1st, what is at stake? Is it worth the risk? That way it shall be well. The reality is this, God loves people and so should we. In this day and age everybody want to feel loved, appreciated and valued, allow yourself to believe again, forget the scars, focus on the future, treat people right, get out of the “me box” Learn to believe in people, just because someone wronged you or falls short in one department does not mean you should drop them for another .Finally do not think that the people around you don’t realize when they are being shortchanged, don’t compare people but realize we are all unique and sometimes you could have the best yet settle for the rest. Hope this opens our eyes and allows us to make love contagious becasue God is love, lets spread the love.

MADE IN...

Finally, i can here my good friend who since i did not seek their permission to mention them..heaving a sigh of relief... one person i know agrees with me is one Henry Githaiga, who agrees with me that maintaining a blog ain't that easy..but here we are so before i get started..OLAAAAAAAAA! How is everyone doing?

Well, its been a while huh? i went on leave got some rest and got some thinking and recollecting time and now am back ready to (try) keep this blog up and running..hehehe yes, emphasis on the word try..The topic of this blog really encapsulates the mood and even obsession with where we think something originates from; think about it, when you see the following

MADE IN UK ( you are probably thinking cool Europe)

MADE IN CHINA (you are probably thinking hmmm.... probably took a short time to assemble and wont last long..*hides*)

MADE IN USA ( you probably thinking, Obama land, or probably has affiliation to Kenya *ok maybe im stretching it*)

But what about you? Thats right and i know the "smart one" will go like i was made in my mothers womb, ok that's a given but then what informs your thinking and the way you live, it all can be traced back to where you were made. Stay with me now...Lets look at the definition of the words:

1. To cause to exist or happen; bring about; create
2. To bring into existence by shaping, modifying, or putting together

Now that we have that, let’s delve into this thing. You see when finally decide to do or even say something there is the baking force, or the force behind the scens if you may. We all go through life and whatever we go through shapes our opinions and attitudes toward certain matters, it basicly changes teh way you view life and so then the sentence

a.) we make a decsion based on what we have gone through in the past

can be rewritten based on the first definition

a.) We CAUSE TO EXIST OR HAPPEN, decisions based on what we have gone through in the past

Look at that, beasue many times we think that we are making a decision but really we are only causing the decsion to exist based on what has happened to us or a loved one. but i am more interested in the second definition and that is what i will major on.

TO BRING TO EXISTENCE BY SHAPING, MOLDING...

wow, when i saw that it just blew me away..You see we may not know it but what we see, hear, adn even say actualy shape and mold our lives. I think about when we were young watching the bold and the beautiful, and we would see Brooke and Ridge forester in a lip-lock ( ok children under 18 go to sleep) we would then the next day go out and play cha-mama and cha- baba and try to play out what we saw..( and the witnesses said i hear you!) The same way from conversations we engage in, from people we talk to, from experiences of life we form a certain basis and/or criteria t handle life..

It becomes important then who you hang around, and what you allow yourself to hear, one of the pastors i respect in Nairobi Pastor Muriithi of Mavuno church says that " we must thrive where we are planted" think about that, that wherever you go you are supposed to be a success! What does that mean you must make success happen, translated you must BRING TO EXISTENCE BY SHAPING AND MOLDING.. Success, how do you do this? You trace back from whence you were made, that is to say the origin of your hurt, joy, etc, look back and where it all began, if you do that you will discover that you live in a "controlled environment" and you are in the driver seat of your life..

Finally let me submit to you, that you are created to make a difference in this world and it doesnt matter how small an impact you think you make, it is worth it. You are worth the time and the energy, and guess what in your own unique way, you are the jewel of the world, and most importantly you are somebody's miracle...

So go out there and CAUSE TO HAPPEN! you are a miracle looking for a place to happen.

MISSING THE POINT???

Time has indeed swung by so fast i looked up and behold August had arrived well and indeed. I fell particularly good about this month for the reason i have a feeling deep down something good is going to happen, i get goosebumps just thinking about it. So yes where have you been? so many have asked, i have seen yols texts and messages, tweets and inboxes asking for the blogpost...i apologize for the delay but here we are..

So many decisions have been made, so many changes in my life all i can say is that i am a better person and i give thanks to God. I have learn t so many things that i will be sharing with you in the course of time. I was going to write on a totally different topic but them i stumbled upon something today that i thought was absolutely profound so i will start there: Its a small thought from Max Lucado that just literally left me speechless and gazing at the screen. It is one of those things that leave you thinking and seeing how it applies to you. here it goes:

The trip from Egypt to the promised land can be made in nine days (Deuteronomy 1:2). It took the Israelite thirty-eight years.
What they should have done, they didn’t . . . So God decided they needed some time to rethink a few things.
Maybe God is wanting to teach you a few things. Pay attention. You don’t want to spend thirty-eight years missing the point

NOW STOP...FOR JUST A SECOND AND THINK ABOUT THAT STATEMENT....

How many times have we seen in our lives, a pattern a cycle of sorts. We go through the same things the same hurts and all and then we seemingly recover and only for it to recur. We get our heart broken again, we relapse into that addiction, we go back to that friend we know is bad for us, we go back tot hat relationship we know is hurting us yet we remain convinced that it will work out. We continue with a habit we know is wrong. Think about it then realize that maybe all this time we have been missing the point. Someone once told me that in the classroom of life, you do not move to the next class simply because you are persistent and have failed so many times, you only move when you have learnt

Its amazing isnt it that we often miss the point, we often fail to take notice of those who really care for us, those who are anchors of our lives and leave the best to go for the rest, that we fail to realize that we ourselves are a priority not an option! I tell you what once we look into the mirror and like the person on the other side and realize that they deserve the best, our perspective on life will change.

Yet the people in your life are diamonds cherish them because they are there for a reason, but no matter the situation the person or the event, please do not miss the point. Live, learn, love...there is power in you not to make a difference but to be the difference..

PIECES OF HEART TWO

So, the week is still on and i am still sharing pieces of some of my best poems ( look at Shiro smiling) "no slacking" she said and so here we are: This particular one i wrote in a bid to describe the woman,it is inspired by my mother and dedicated to all the ladies.God bless you it speaks for itself:

She is one of virtue
The only word she knows is truth,
Here hair is the flair of demureness,
Here eyes are pure and light the pathway of probity,

Here lips carry lucidity,
Speech correct, wise and honorary,
Her face is that of sweet nectars of heavens flowers,
She leaves the fragrance of life everywhere she goes,
Her hands are soft enough to hold the man hands yet understanding enough to know when to let go and just let him be him, to care for and nurture for children, through her ears come in normal words but she in her eloquence and immaculate mannerism, calculates what to say and how to say it, her mind is wholesome and fruit-bearing, knowledge flows through her veins and her core is filled with the sanity that could bring peace to the world and life to a cerebral institution for she is the definition of tranquil.

Her body attracts all men yet, she siphons them out with her unique character causes them to think twice about what they are going to bring to the table, what they are going to say to her because she has an aura of excellence. Her values are not stopped, toppled or regenerated, nor are they fabricated, no, she makes them herself, it is her mission, to stand for what is right and she knows when she is wrong.

Her feet stride into a bad situation and though she does not always have the solution she is not afraid to ask for help, she is understanding and caring and sweet. She is the reality of every mans Cinderella. She believes in God, He is number one in her life; her heart is so hidden in Him that he has to seek Him to find it and thus find her.

PIECES OF HEART

So someone once asked me "when you are not on the blog and not at work, what do you do you do?" well in my free time i love to write because i believe it is my avenue of expression and so, when i am not blogging i am writing, poems in particular and these are my favorite ones and i though i would share them with you. I was a little skeptical about it at first but my friend Wanjiru Gaitho, spurred me on so Shiro thanks:

The first poem is about wisdom, in life we make so many decisions that we later realize is wrong and i realized that it is basically because we lack wisdom. I define it as the ability to activate character. So what is character?, it is doing the right thing even when an opportunity to do wrong presents itself, and it is also the ability to act right and leave people and things better. So lets bring it home: Wisdom is the ability to activate your capacity to do the right thing even when an opportunity to do wrong presents itself and thus you make people and things better: Here is the poem , let me know what you think about it.

Tides come and waves surf,
Once I thought I had it enough!
Yet out of the corner of saccharine joy,
Came a lovely dame,

You see she is different, she understands,
When rains come under me she stands,
She’s not moved by my many brands,
Steadfast and pure are her ways,

I thought I had seen it all,
Thought I'd experienced life, the call,
Hit the wall, had the pitfall
And suffered withdrawal,

But then….like a response she came;

The door knob of my heart turned,
I thought for sure I had the key,
To lock out Tiffey,Tina or Milley,
But alas it swung unbolt,
It was ready to ride my heart again like a colt!

See I pride myself of being the man,
But she makes me do things even without a gun,
Its not robbery, no callous pursuit,
Neither is it a cold chimney of hurt laced with soot,

She doesn’t treat me like a beast of burden, no am no mule,
She doesn’t flank me with sarcasm and feed me ridicule,
Crue,l fuel, for duel,
Discord, pains Chord anger’s sword!
Good Lord!

She’s nothing like that, she’s calm,
My pains palm, my life’s alm,
My heart’s alarm!
a floating swan, together we are one,
we are a kingdom;
Her name is Wisdom

PROVERBS 4:7-8 Wisdom is the principle thing and in all thy getting get understanding, exalt her and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee honor, when thou embrace her
JAMES 1:5 if any of you lack wisdom let him ask God who gives liberally…
ECCLESIASTES 7:11-12 Wisdom is good with an inheritance, wisdom is a defense and money is a defense but the Excellency of knowledge is that wisdom giveth life to them that have it

THE POWER OF SUGGESTION

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! Hey people I had really missed you been a crazy season for me and time has become quite evasive ...but either way " i m here" so most of my time away (at least from the blogs) i have been through a barrage of things ranging from all spheres of life and i mean all. The thread that tied it all together forms the basis of this blog... THE POWER OF SUGGESTION...

What is suggestion? (I know you probably think that you know what it is. Most of us will define suggestion thus: it is when somebody suggests... (Sticks tongue out) yeah right...i didn’t know it was so complex until I tried to research on it... check it out:

WIKIPEDIA: Suggestion is the psychological process by which one person guides the thoughts, feelings, or behaviour of another.

This definition it struck gold for me, or was it oil (either way, it struck something) I had a light bulb moment. It is so clear isn't it? I like this part "a process by which someone guides the thoughts, feelings or behaviour of another” you know when I saw that chain it made me see the line and the immense influence therein. In the world today we are surrounded by so many people with different ideas emanating from their diverse backgrounds and that is ok because variety is the spice of life right? There is a flip-side. More often than not we find ourselves behaving in a certain manner, doing certain things simply because the people around us are doing it and, you never know. You may end up wondering, hmmm how did I end up doing this? I’ll tell you how, the power of suggestion.

It all starts with a little word, an innocent comment ' you look fat!" "He is not that into you" "you will never make it" " no use trying you fail” what then happens is that it is embedded into your thought process and you begin to think about it even after the fact. Maybe your friends are gone and you look in the mirror and think hmm... maybe this dress does make me look a little big or hmm... maybe i am being discriminated, hmm... maybe i am being taken for granted or hmm.. maybe I should not try at all" who am I?" who will listen to me?" These thoughts then develop into feelings and they now dictate your atmosphere and that of all around you and before you know it you act on those feelings and form a behavioral pattern that ultimately alters your life. But it all began with a comment, an idea, and a suggestion"

It is important and critical for all of us to understand that, yes, we have friends and loved ones but we have to set our own pace, do a self-assessment know that you can and cant do, believe in yourself and your abilities.. But you say “I have never been good at it?" think back when did you start thinking like that?" who told you that? How did you form that opinion... or you think “i always get a headache when i travel" or “i must have coffee before i start my day" again think back when did you form this idea, it must have been something someone said. And then there is another danger: when you say it to yourself!

because of the suggestion you make a conclusion that that is just the way it is supposed to be...I guess what I am trying to say is this. Let nobody talk you out of your dream, your belief in self. The reason God gave you big dreams is not so people can believe them it’s for you to grow into them. You have to believe that you have the capacity to succeed and to make it. God don’t make JUNK... There is something that only you can do that nobody else can even if it is as little as making tea, it’s your thing take pride in it. You see in life it is the little things that make the greatest impact. Mother Teresa put it thus (paraphrased) " you may think to yourself that what you do is just a drop in the ocean, but without that drop, the ocean reduces in volume" so may I submit to you that you are appreciated, that the little effort you put in to go the extra mile, is noted and seen and even if you are not lauded for it, know this; you are created to matter. To hit the highs in life to be the best. So many times we want to change, we want to do the right thing, we want to reach the peak but someone discourages you, do not allow anyone to muffle your voice of freedom, or to step on your destiny or belittle your gift, you have something to offer. Rise up. Dream again.

I know life may look bleak, like the doors are closed like, you can never rise up again, you may feel like you have messed up big time, but do not allow anyone including yourself to suggest to you that you are done and dusted, you have to begin somewhere, begin where you are, make up your mind that you are going to make it, push against every anti you barrier and strive to make things work in your life. Use the power of suggestion thus. Since you are so good at listening to what others think about you and allow them to form your decision why don’t you suggest to yourself to get some new friends to get those who celebrate you not tolerate you, then suggest to yourself to have a winning attitude, that you can make it, that you can rise out of adversity and shine again..if you do that it will form the basis of your thoughts, you will begin to feel like a winner and an above average person, an excellent person and then you will begin behaving like one,( but you say I am not) fake it till you make it! Once you start behaving like a successful person, success will catch up with you.

I appreciate you and I will see you at the top, remember, successful people look like you.
Enough said.

THE BIRTH PLACE

No, this is not about where you were born or what but more of what you were born to do, and how you intend to get there. There is one thing that i had written about before but i felt necessary to write on it again and sort of reiterate a few things. I pick up from where i left the last time. This week began awesome for me, and as usual at the beginning of week i try to set a general theme for the week, it helps keeps me focused ( yap, it does, no as in seriously) anyway moving along... so,AS I LISTENED TO Dr. Mike Murdock these words are thus for this week:

“YOUR SELF PORTRAIT DETERMINES WHAT AND WHO YOU PURSUE" in other words the way you see yourself, the strengths and weaknesses you have, or think you have ( or, that you have been told you have) go a long way in determining the kind of people you choose to hang around and the kind of things you choose to pursue to go after your goals.. But you say the title of this blogpost is "the birth place" (am getting there) you ready let’s go on a journey:

1. Pain will birth Goals;

yap i said it again, i love talking about pain? why (no its not because i have had a painful past, cut a brother some slack) but then i have seen my fair share, but remember this: Pain births goals, that is to say that through pain, and what you feel you decide, set up in your mind and say, you know what i want to be like this or i want to do this. That is a goal! I was listening to Bonny Khalalwe when on an interview, he said: " i have seen it all, i have seen it all at 5yrs i watched my mother unable to make ends meet and we would sleep hungry, and now, when i see all the misappropriation of funds i think of all the parents who have to put their children to bed without food" what is that? Out of pain, it placed a desire in him to pursue service and to fight is out and fight for the rights of others. So there we have goals.

2. Goals lead you to a mentor

But you ask who is a mentor, friend’s love you for who you are, but a mentor loves you too much to leave you where you are! You see the greatest gift in life often arrive in flawed containers. That is to say yes we are to love people as they are but we are not to live them there. A mentor will be able to take you and push you to your destiny. May i submit to you that you need a mentor, somebody who can train and equip and whose life you follow and whom you can learn from their mistakes.

It is critical to have a mentor because a mentor decides wisdom, what is wisdom? It is making the right decision even in a wrong situation. You only do that after when you allow yourself to sit and learn under somebody. Why is wisdom important?

3. Wisdom decides relationships

Now don't jump at the aisle ( hold your horses) i mean relationships all types the people you hang around, your friends, Uncommon success will only happen when you have an uncommon relationship, you don't need everybody loving you, you just need the right one loving you. And it brings me to this point:

4. Relationships determine Self-portrait

Its true most of the time, we see ourselves through the eyes of people. What people call you, what they say you are? Call a child stupid enough times they will be that! See you need to be with people that celebrate you not tolerate you. You need people who will speak life into you, you need people who will lift you up and usher you into your destiny. Because you act as you see yourself, this takes me back to where we started:That being said madea simmons says: Its not what people call you, its what you answer to!

"YOUR SELF PORTRAIT DETERMINES WHAT AND WHO YOU PURSUE"

All these things will ultimately determine where you go and where you go and who and what you will pursue, most f the times PAIN IS THE BIRTHPLACE, its where it all begins.. so ask yourself, what am i pursuing? What relationships am i in? You will see a pattern and you will finally see who you are.

LIFE EVOLVED

My goodness, have I missed writing here, I have written about two posts and I have been walking with them on my micro SD card but time time time! Let me take time to say hi to you first, yes you, who are reading this, just to remind you, you are appreciated and thanks for taking the time...

Well, two weeks is a long time ey?, new month is here.( yaay) really excited about it, but the build up to it was full of well, a lot of issues, for the last two weeks I have been grappling, looking for answers as to why sometimes good things happen to bad people and why is life sometimes so difficult? Why is it a challenge to get by sometimes? And what happens when we are challenged? When we don’t get the result we were hoping, praying earnestly we will get...when our hearts are broken... Well, Sherlock Holmes ( fictional private investigator FYI) used to say to his colleague, Dr. Watson, " Eyes and ears" so that is what I have been doing, I have been observing and listening, which I think we need to do more of, you will be amazed at what you hear and see and how solutions come to you..

1. YOU ARE A THERMOSTAT NOT A THERMOMETRE...

Interesting huh?, well let us examine what they do, a thermostat sets the temperature while a thermometer measures it and well assumes the temperature of the surrounding.. This simply means that in life we are not to allow the circumstances and our situations define us and who we are. Wake up in the morning and make a decision to be happy, I always say happiness is a choice... Mum always says (such a mommy’s boy moment) Love on purpose...I took what she said and now I read that as “make a decision to live on purpose. Because you are created on purpose for a purpose...ok feel free to read that slowly...its ok, take your time...done? Ok let’s go on. That seemingly means that we need to understand that we are all cut out for a specific assignment a task and a purpose. Steve Harvey says: “The two most important days in your life are when you are born (for me that’s April 1st...truth) and the day you discover why" May I submit to you that you are cut out to be the best to make a mark, you are in all manner of ways marked to make a mark, there is only one you, and only you can do what you are cut out to....With all this you can be a thermostat and not a thermometer...

2. You are what you eat...

No no this is not a diet advice I am going to give you. Nope! Here let me explain. Remember eyes and ears? Well simply what are you feeding yourself with, what are you listening to? What opinions from friends or relatives have made you think the way you do? Who are you hanging around? Whose views do you hold close? Simply put what you hear, what you see and what you say, these are all feeding your mind, shaping opinions, deciding attitudes and defining your habits that will in effect determine your relationships...

Think on these a while... catch you later

LESSONS part 1b

Wow I got time to write a morning blog, I must really be inspired **chuckles** well this is a continuation of yesterdays blog so if you haven’t read it LESSONS: Ok so we will now pause so that you can read it...go on...scroll and read it, nope not later now..NOW! (HEHEHE marketing skills)
So anyways here we are yesterday as I said the pain was unbearable, big word so I will endeavor to break it down for you,

I was thinking of my aunt, she went to be with the Lord, I say that because I know that such a beautiful soul can only be in heaven, I mean we do serve a just God. She was beautiful when I think of her I think of what Maya Angelou said she said: " A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer it sings because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song!" my translation of that is simply that we all know our roles and duties and so long as we do what we were created to do, we may not always get it right but we will have tried and we will be in our purpose..She was so nice to us, always caring and all.... (I will stop here but read on I want to tie two issues together)

I was also thinking of a friend of mine who called during before and told me that his brother in law is beating on the sister, painful thought he did not know what to do, and during Sunday live yesterday when the story on domestic violence ran, pain ran through his entire being...( now I tie this two.) you see aunty was sometimes beaten by uncle but she wouldn’t leave, she stuck there for the kids, now before you go off.." no way I wouldn’t do that" " if it was me" on me just chill a while, picture the hurt she had to go through first of all, when she realized that the man of her dreams turned violent, who was this man? What happened to him? Whose fault was it? These are the things that ran through somebody's brain, before you even think of leaving...it hurts. To me it’s like your heart is a paper and somebody just sticking it through the shredding machine...

So allow me to reiterate a few things this morning:
First of all once again "All men are prepared to accomplish the incredible if their ideals are threatened."

I believe this is true, most of the time we see pain as though it was a ball and chain, a shackle that is keeping us down, whether it’s the loss of a loved one, or anything that generally means we are out of our comfort zone, it will cause pain. But reality is that it is in this situation s that you realize just how strong of a character you are, just how far you can go, just what you are worth. I submit to you, DO NOT FEAR PAIN because in life sometimes pain is the fertilizer of ambition, the fuel for creativity and the solution to stagnation. I always like to think this way: when Pressure is applied to coal, a beautiful diamond is the goal" For the record though I think the only time you should lay your hands on your lady is when you are making love ***blush*** or when you are praying for her. Other than it is wrong.

Even though my heart was heavy last night, I woke up with these words ringing in my ear and that will probably keep me through the week:
"While I know myself as a creation of God, I am also obligated to realize and remember that everyone else and everything else are also God's creation."
Think of that and equally remember that: "Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning."

LESSON

What a week! (Yeah I know I say that a lot) but this particular one carries the trophy ***just like Manchester United** (SORRY FOLKS HAD TO RUB IT IN) yeah so anyway this is the week that just had it all, hmmm... notwithstanding that the world was supposed to end...really??? I mean REALLY?? No wait... REEEEEALLLY?? I am not even going to that debate, we came we saw and well...we are still seeing.
I’m writing this particular blog with the heaviest of hearts, I can’t even carry it no more, the pain that I feel is immeasurable, but with it I learn something...(You are probably thinking finally he gets to took, so stop smiling and lets go on)

God gives us gifts, (cliché line you may think, but go ahead and read on) the greatest gift that God can give you is people, and people are rare (don’t think too much just read on) true that, people are rare, think of in a world with billions of people, there are few who understand and get you, including the ones who will meet and fall in love with, and who will complete you. Either way we get gifts from Heaven they arrive sealed and packages and most of them are delivered to us with the notice "FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE" and so we base on principles and boundaries without which, we crumble under the weight of pain.
In life's busy schedule, we still find them, like that Gem, mined in the caves, like the Gold found in murky waters, we find them. They exist, they really do but allow me to submit to you a few things, of course I will borrow a leaf from Shiro on her latest blog at: http://shelikessweetthings.blogspot.com/ the things that I have learnt this week:

1. Live and love with no regrets: never regrets anything that you have done in the name of love, you only have one family, one chance, life is not a gamble, life is not a dress-rehearsal, it is the main event.

2. Pain - oh the one that we hate the most, that we are afraid of, we can learn from it and grow: there is always a bigger picture, i guess ( that needs to be drummed into us doesn’t it, it never ever looks like there is one huh?, it’s ok take your time...we are all learning)

3. If you find a friend that you can be yourself with, that you can tell everything, be vulnerable with, and not feel shame, laugh with, cry with, appreciate them and give them priority must most of all, get on your knees and pray for them, whisper something to God on their behalf, they are there for a reason.

4. Rise: from the ashes, from the pain, from the hurt, find strength, God has your back in all you do.

Tonight my thoughts are all over because I am dealing with a very delicate situation have nostalgia, I am happy that my team won, while well... on the other side...i am avoiding tears because, my friend Tony Dianga is here (there i mentioned you, happy birthday by the way bro) Well, don’t you worry about lil all me (Carrots i know you have a different picture of this haha..Literally) next blog will deal with everything...and it will be the best seller.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I want you to know I appreciate you and may you receive the best life has to offer.

RELFECTIONS

oh boy what a long week it has been... I haven’t had a chance to write in what seemed like endless working hours ( so bear with me on this one), but it was worth it, I guess, all in a days work...so I kept on sleeping late and waking up late ( yeah... early to bed early to rise, well the reverse is true). Though it was a quite week, I did a lot of learning and I can say growth on some levels. May 1st to May 16th thereabouts is normally one of the toughest weeks for me since 2007, see it was in this week that, that I lost my best friend Wycliffe Matini Malu, he passed on at the age of 21years because some doctor misdiagnosed him, but I really recount on the things that he taught m, at that young age he was a real wise guy... one day we are sitting arguing over whether I should date this girl or not, she had been gibing me quite the umm... hard time, DRAMA! so he says " Willis, if you date this girl you will get a C+ and if you don’t you will get an A" suffice it to say I thought he was talking about education, and may I add that I did date that girl and I did get a C+ (coinincidence hmmm..??) but I thought it through and I realize he wasn’t talking about education he was talking about life, what kind of deal I was getting myself into, what it meant for me... He meant that I had to value my life so much that I had to believe that I deserve the best grade, the best that life had to offer, now am not saying that she was a C+ coz I know her, she has registered quite the growth herself but at that time us being together would not create the best for both of us....but it was his words on the death bed that really got to me, he sat there and told the people around him," Tell my brothers then he called us out by name ( Steve, Willis, Robert, Victor, Nathan) to keep loving each other and to show the world the same love they have shown me.." with that he went to be with the Lord.... I had never cried when anybody passed on, but when he did, and we were told of it... I wept like a baby, and I did not care who was there.......

But he taught me (among the many other things) that love is not overrated, that whenever we show love how ever little of it, it lights a light in someone's heart, that no kind gesture is ever in vain. He made me realize that true love, is not one that sees others and wants to get from them but one that sees them and wants to give to them, to add value to their lives to make them better, and that is the basis of character. Character is doing something right even when there is an opportunity to do wrong, I learnt that this week as well, character is making people better; it is the basis of integrity it is founded on love. Love is not a four letter word, it is not the reserve of couples, it is a bond, a chord of individual's essence, a knot that binds heart and soul and it’s real. To give up on love is to give up on God because God is love.

Don’t give up on love, jut because your heart was broken and you were not treated right or they didn't call or they you don’t feel the same anymore, or because you had a fight... Believe...don’t argue...you say but...but... oh no get your but out of the way (pun intended) quit making excuses and work on it. I always say Love on purpose! Coz if God can love you with your messed up self, you sure can make room in your heart for one more... I got so much to say but I will live with the first thing I thought of today morning

“Sometimes you take at your life and realize how far you have come, and you’ll know, you are a miracle"

"I KNOW YOU WILL"

MUM AND I
Mothers day is here, I have really been missing my mother lately I mean we talk but there is just that thing about a face to face conversation, watching her laugh at my jokes...( i tell you she is my number one fan) and watch her do voices ( she is the best at this). She is one remarkable lady,.. I always tell my dad “you know you are a very wise man, to have married this young lady!" and he always says, "no am not lucky, am blessed!" and we are all blessed. I send my mum this message in the morning " you are more than a mother you are a friend, more than a friend you are a souls gift, more than a souls gift, you are heavens jewel..." yap really mushy huh ***smiles*** but she deserves it. Every time I look back the one thing I know of mum is that, she has never, ever shot down a dream I had, she always tells me, "I know you will" these to me are the most important things that she has told me and every time I feel like I can’t make it I remember her saying " I know you will" and it gives me the strength to go through everything!. I know that sometimes life gets hard and true I mean it has been one long week for me, so much pain sometimes and hurt, but you know what I choose to be happy choose to look in the bright side, because I know I will get through it all and I have the strength to do the right thing, mum may not be with me 24/7 but her words are, they are truly a reverberation, they echo in my heart..And I would like them to echo in yours, I know you will - make it through the storm
I know you will - have a brighter day
I know you will - shine
I know you will- get that promotion, that call
I know you will - overcome
I know you will - why?
Because I know you will...

Today I read this quote: you don’t have to wait until the storm passes by, you can dance in the rain...”
Celebrate you may not be where you want to be, but at least you are not where you were.

Appreciate mothers, if you had forgotten, call them, text them, mail them tell them you love them

THE CAT AT THE BACK

So today was once again one of the looong day(had many of those)... but it was kind of interesting. I was dressing up, this morning and well, I had to pick my socks, so I stumbled upon a pair I  bought just for the fun of it ( yeap, I know you can identify with this), anyway it was quite the interesting pair they are grey, but the highlight of the socks is the imprint it has at the back..THE IMPRINT OF A CAT" yes, you read right! So I put them off (for the record my friends Nyawira and Cindy have seen these socks first hand). Anyway so, right now as I was finishing off preparing to leave, it hit me: " THESE SOCKS REPRESENT LIFE" Now before you throw a fit read on: You see in life we all have the cat at the back, you know how we look all calm and composed on the front but at the back we have the cat. That habit, person, situation that always seems to recur in our lives, it’s like it has nine lives. You know what I mean, the skeleton in the closet, the one habit you want to break, the person you keep falling in love with even though they don’t treat you right. That is the issue that has nine lives. You try and you can’t get read of it. Well, I was thinking what can be done, I mean how can we get off, and then I realized, I put these socks on; I can as well take them off. Dont you think it’s time you took off that extra luggage, made that important decision, and enjoyed peace. I tell you what, I have learnt that peace is the most important thing in life, it is wholeness nothing missing, nothing broken and that includes your heart, especially your heart. You can make the decision to shed off the baggage because I tell you what, you cannot fly high when you have baggage dropping you down, when that situation keeps popping back up...so take the socks off! Breathe afresh, take some time to think things through and once you get rid of the cat at the back you can walk in perfect peace.

Why is it important? So you can walk better, no one wants stinky socks right? Well if you want to be a better person, and then do it, do it now, don’t procrastinate, call that person, change your plans do what you have to do to get rid of the cat at the back! “But I can’t do it!" “It’s hard" true it may be but make that first step, progress is a process, it may be hard but it is not impossible!

ME THINKS

It has been quite an interesting day for me, today I woke up with a bounce on my step and music on my knees...yes I know who says that? But its true I had a severe case of musical knees, anyway that is beside the point. You know those things that people tell you in passing and you never really get to understand what they meant until they walk away or, until it hits you later and a light bulb goes off in our brain, ok not literally, but you know what I mean. So today I remembered something that I heard so long ago... here goes”you can never hang around with the eagles as long as you are still pecking around with the chickens"

I paused and thought about it ( and yes I can be quite at times, but that is besides the point **smiles**) so anyway I paused and I though it through and realized, how many times in life that we pass off opportunity simply because we are settling for second best. We shortchange ourselves, we pick the lesser instead of the better, we go for the least, the barely get by mentality, the thinking "oh I can never have that” or “I am good only for this" Then I asked myself. I’m I living the best, doing the best being the best I can be? Then another thought came to mind, a quote I read on twitter: "We can’t be perfect but we chase perfection and in the pursuit of it we catch excellence"
My friend carrots, yes that is a name haha! Thinks I am in love with that quote and I am, you see I believe that we are created to be the best, and nothing less. We cannot therefore shortchange ourselves to settle for mediocre lives, relationships, situations all in the premise that, it’s what I deserve... But then it hit me again... (Yap I have really been thinking) that by the time we have these negative thoughts we have obliviously allowed it to get to us. How did you form that opinion? Most likely somebody told you, or you heard it somewhere...now now, keep your hats on, true think, when you say,  " im not that good" "i cant have that" or "your guy/girl is cheating? "he she doesn't treat me right" it must come from somewhere, I mean I know you are smart and all but it must come from somewhere, most likely you have allowed someone or even your situation to dictate your lives, which brings me back to this : "YOU CAN NEVER FLY WITH THE EAGLES AS LONG AS YOU ARE PECKING AROUND WITH THE CHICKENS" that is not to say you become picking but it means you become careful, don let anyone drag you down, or keep you down, you have within you the ability and capability for sustainability, you are marked to make a mark, I tell you what, if you begin to think like this then you will see a change, I though on this the whole day today and I felt better, wiser stronger, and all..I am a happy person because I choose to be an eagle....

Catch yol later...

REVERBARATION- ECHOES OF THE HEART

So i finally decided to start a blog why, well ill explain. I am a writer i love writing and well, i haven't been writing of late and i realized there is so much that not only goes on around me but a lot that inspires and just general life stuff. So it has been a long time coming and here we are..my blog i am soo excited, so why did i call it Reverberations, i know you are probably thinking reverba..what??? REVERBERATIONS let me explain, teh word reveraration (it is a handful to type so i am imaging how you are saying it ) simply means :To resound in a succession of echoes or to
2. To have a prolonged or continuing effect:  and herein lies the reason. Things taht happen to us each day, whether, waht we think or what we say or is said to us, how people act towards us, how they act towards otehrs, all these things have the ability to have a prolonged or continuing effect in our lives. So where are this stored, well in the heart. so in effect this means then that when i title my blog REVERBARATION - ECHOES OF THE HEART, it simply means : A prolonged effect - echoed through my heart!.. There that wasnt so hard was it?

So there it is, the blog season begins people: see you soon.
:-)
